About the St James's Players

St. James's Players were formed in 1966 and launched their first production - Noel Coward's 'Blithe Spirit' - in the following year.

Since then there have been over 100 productions in a wide range of styles, including one act plays, revues, pageant, farce and pantomime, as well as "serious" drama.

The Players perform two plays, one in May and one in October, and a pantomime or revue in January each year. There may also be occasional "specials" during the year. Each year our total audience is over 2000.

Some performances are either reserved for, or in aid of, local charities. In January 2012, the Players (at the request of Kingston's mayor, Councillor Patrick Codd) performed the first ever pantomime at the Rose Theatre. This performance of "Dick Whittington", with an audience of over 640, raised funds for the Mayor's charities, the Born-too-soon campaign and Macmillan Cancer Care.

Members of the group also raise funds for charities in ways other than acting, such as participating in the annual Thames Bridges 33 mile cycle ride for the Stroke Association.
